Стилистический анализ текста: F. Scott Fitzgerald “The Diamond as Big as Ritz”
The text under stylistic analysis is taken from the book “The diamond as Big As Ritz” written by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
It deals with feelings and emotions of author and written in the style of fiction. This story is told by author.
This part of a story is about a well-known problem – leaving home for studying.
The text consists of three parts. First is exposition. Here we see the describing of patriarchal American city and customs are ruling in it. In this part author uses such devices as epithets – “darling and gifted son”, circumlocutions – “from hot-box to hot-bed”, metaphors – “he put on long trousers”. The author tries to show the atmosphere of the small American town in the beginning of XX century. We can see he describing of the family of Unger;s.
The next part is the raising action. There we can see the scene of farewell between father and son. His last admonitions and advices. The author constrains us to share the feelings of the old and Unger.
The last part of the text is denouement. Here we can see the mood of the young man leaving home maybe forever. This is known to almost every student entering the university.
The last two parts are poor for stylistic devices. Only one epithet is there – “keep the home fires burning”.
I agree with author position, because it is widely distributed situations, when young people are leaving homes for education and it has no means when it was, century ago or now.
